I suppose I should start off with a little introduction. And by an introduction I don't mean a go-around-the-circle and tell something about ourselves kind of thing, I suppose I mean more of an explanation of the title, and subsequent purpose of these posts. Maybe I've just grown cynical in my old age, but as senior year has progressed, I have found that I can deal less and less with some of the stupid, annoying habits that people have. I'm in all honesty not sure what shortened my fuse on this, because I remember people doing the same things all throughout high school and even a little before it, but this year things have really come to a head, and my tolerance is extremely low for the minor irritations caused by day to day interaction with people. I'm thinking for this first post a general rundown of the kinda of annoyances I notice most is appropriate.
A large number of the annoying things I see happen online, specifically on Facebook or twitter. Posting song lyrics as statuses of Facebook, or as tweets, has got to be the dumbest thing that has ever become popular. Especially considering where you live, because 95 percent of the song lyrics people post are either about "making it through tough times," or else about being a "thug" or a "gangster." Look, I don't care how bad your life seems, you live in Avon Lake, it could be a lot worse. (Disclaimer: that last paragraph is not directed toward anyone going through legitimate issues, like family stuff, legal stuff, health stuff, etc. But to all the people going online whining about how they don't fit in, and how boring their lives are, seriously, calm down.)
Anyone who says a stupid trendy phrase because they think it's a witty catch-all response to anything people say is either too insecure to show their personality or too stupid to develop one. Case in point, any variation of the phrase "that's awkward" in response to an anecdote inevitably causes my blood pressure to rise to dangerous levels. I would consider it a victory if one of the things I hear called awkward ever day actually were awkward. The worst part is, if you call him or her (usually her, not that I would ever generalize in such broad terms) on his or her use of that particular adjective, and ask exactly why that person finds such a situation as the one you just described awkward, often you are met with dead silence. This proves my earlier point; either the person doesn't know what the word awkward means and used it incorrectly, therefore they're ignorant. Or they were aware that they were using "awkward" incorrectly, and used it anyway because they've heard it done over and over so many times that it's like an automated response that they can blurt without thinking, thus saving them the unbearable terror and humiliation of being an individual.
I'll go more in depth into each of these topics and more over the course of this class, but for the sake of my heart and blood pressure I think it's best to leave it here for now.
**Another Disclaimer**
For the most part, I'm not really like this I promise. This is just me ranting and venting, I'm actually a much calmer person than this post would lead you to believe.
